Traffic management systems for Baku Metro, Azerbaijan
In 2007-2013, LOT Group has implemented Traffic management system (TMS) in the Baku Metro. The Central traffic control center was created, and required equipment was installed to establish communication between the Central traffic control center and 10 station control centers. SCADA handles 20 – 30 thousand of digital signals.
The Central traffic control center is situated on 28th of May station and is equipped with:
- Server QNX
- Database backup server
- Data base management system server
- Automated workplace (AWP) of central dispatcher
- Communication network equipment
- Video wall of operator’s AWP
- Displays of trains dispatchers for Metro’s red and green lines
- Video server
- Graphics processor
- Video wall of information display system (1 х 12 m)
- Video wall of executive controller’s AWP
- Executive controller AWP
The equipment of automation and telemechanics of train movement to communicate with newly established Central traffic control center contains:
- Monitoring and signaling units (24 sets)
- Server hardware equipment
- Network switch type Catalyst 3560 24 10/100/1000T
- AWP of centralization room operator (main and backup), intended to control the devices of route-relay station centralization
- Automated workplace of electromechanician to control signaling systems parameters
- Communication devices power supply system.
Modernization of the local and central traffic control systems was performed without the train movement stoppage.
Out-of-date systems and control panels of the dispatchers were substituted by new ones at all the stations.
Traffic control at the stations and at the Central traffic control center is performed by means of the modern micro-processing technologies (systems of distributive controllers, servers, data transmission through optic communication lines).
Control is carried out from AWPs.
Unique software allows to control the train operation, define the faults of the field devices, archive all the events connected with the train operation.
Automatic Train Control System in Baku Metro, Azerbaijan
In 2008 – 2013 relay processing based interlocking system was implemented at 5 stations of Baku Metro. The implemented system improved safety and reliability at Icheri Sheher, Azadlig Prospekti, Darnagul, 28 May stations by using hi-tech equipment.
The following equipment was installed at each station:
- remote control cabinets (RC)
- remote signaling cabinets (RS);
interlocking operator’s AWPs;
technician’s AWPs.
Modernization of the equipment at 28 May station was carried out in two stages. During the first stage (2010) substitution of the display system included assembling of cabinets with distributed controllers of remote signaling and equipping of the modern interlocking operator’s AWP as well as equipping of the interlocking technician’s AWP. During the second stage (2013) full modernization of the control system at the station as well as integration of the information subsystem into the complex relay processing based system were performed.
Central Operation Control Center in Baku Metro, Azerbaijan
In 2013 Central Operation Control Center was created in Baku Metro. LOT Group delivered and installed all necessary equipment for the connection with OCC.
The following set of equipment was provided:
- interlocking operator’s server cabinet
- video servers cabinet
- train operators’ AWPs
- information display system structural element, display wall size: 1×12m.
Modernization and integration of the operating train automation and remote control equipment with new OCC was carried out at 14 stations of Baku Metro. All the works at Memar Ajami, 20 Yanvar, Inshaatchilar, Elmlar Akademiyasi, Nizami, Jafar Jabbarly, Khatai, 28 May, Ganjlik, Nariman Narimanov, Ulduz, Gara Garayev, Neftchilar, Аhmedli, Hazi Aslanov stations were performed fully ahead of schedule.

Passengers Information System in the Subway of Baku, Azerbaijan
Among a wide range of different automated system implemented by LOT Group in the Baku Subway there was a unified precision timing system (launched in 2007).
This system ensures the accuracy of all information and security systems of the subway, coordinates the work of displays at the stations and provides unified precise time for a dispatching subsystem.
LOT Group designed, manufactured and installed the following equipment at 23 stations of the Baku Subway:
- 46 usual clocks (showing time);
- 46 interval clocks (showing time passed after previous train departure);
- 70 clocks for dispatcher needs;
- a central clock server with GPS devices (satellite time correction);
- 26 switching units;
- an optical communication network.
Also the system allows controlling electro-mechanical clock using second and minute’s pulses.
